Mason nodded. "Well that makes sense, since you got to grow up with a father and all." Mason said not meaning to be harsh. He just spoke the truth.
Mason was only half aware the Marcus was still there as he held the slip of paper gently in his hands, as if if he were to drop it, it would shatter like glass. "I always wondered how my mother tricked our father into giving me the Doom name." He said with a grin and then flipped the paper around to show Marcus "this must have been one attempt. A fake birth certificate." He said almost amusingly.

Marcus merely shrugged. He had never thought much of having a father. To him, the man had always been nothing more than another one of his pawns. He supposed that, in many ways, all the man's children had equally been pawns, as well. He sometimes wondered if he had outlived their mother, if he would have sought out his other son's (and possibly daughters) like Mason and Jacoby. Mason's slightly harsh tone went unnoticed to Marcus, likely thanks to his indifference to having grown up with the man. "I suppose it does," he said simply.
Marcus' attention had wandered slightly as he thought about what he'd be doing that night. His eyes had drifted away from Mason, bored with the situation and feeling no need to hide it since it didn't seem like Mason was currently paying him much mind, anyway. But as soon as Mason spoke again, his attention went right back to the other, that mask on once more. "There is no telling, really," he said with a small smile. His eyes went to the birth certificate as Mason continued to speak. "It probably was," he said, "She had to trick him some how," he added, words sounding slightly forced as he chuckled.

Mason placed the fake certificate on the desk. His mother always seemed to surprise him even when she was 50 feet under. Mason careful moved his hand back into the box, pulling out old photos. Some where muggle taken and others with a wizard camera. "Where did our father stand on the muggle argument?" He asked. He never thought his father would adventure out into the muggle world. Maybe his mother dragged him.
Mason slowly placed the pictures, one at a time as he looked at them down onto the certificate. He wondered where his father had stood on any argument. Would he have accepted Mason for being gay? "I don't know... I always saw my father as being a strict man. I just wish I had met him at least once before he passed."

Marcus watched as Mason retrieved some pictures from the box. He was finding it to be increasingly harder to hide the fact that he was bored. Perhaps it would be best to just leave Mason be. Then again, Marcus was possessive of his belongings and as far as he was concerned, everything in the house was his. Therefore, he very rarely left anyone alone while they were there. Lloyd was probably the only exception those days. Marcus smiled at the question. This smile was genuine because the question had slightly amused him. "He was not the... biggest fan of muggles," he said, "He wasn't death eater material, but he would not be too accepting of one of his children marrying a muggle. That is actually why Jonathan was kicked out of the house when he was seventeen," he added matter of fact, "He was a hypocrite, though. He would always talk about how much he despised muggles, but he was friends with half bloods and would use some Muggle technology. He only hated muggles if they attempted to - as he would say - taint our blood."
Mason placed the pictures atop the birth certificate. Marcus wondered for the briefest of moments what was going through his mind. He found it hard to imagine what anyone was thinking at any given time. In fact, he found it hard to relate to anyone at all. Strict. That was putting it lightly. Marcus Sr had high expectations for his boys. The ones that carried his blood, anyway. He had essentially given up on Lloyd. Finding him to be too soft or too vulnerable to hold his position one day. But Marcus. Yes, he had definitely been strict. Strict was a bit of an understatement. "Oh, he was," Marcus said cryptically, "I am terribly sorry that you couldn't meet him. I can assure you, however, that you didn't exactly miss out on much. You might find that hard to believe, but you were right in saying that he was strict."
