It had just been one of those days. It wasn't a bad day for Jacoby. Not exactly. It had simply been a long one. It seemed that no matter how hard he tried, he just could not get a day off. Not that he particularly wanted such a day. He just didn't want to be forced to stay at work longer than he felt necessary. Normally, at such an hour he'd be at home eating dinner and watching as Trish allowed their children to take over everything in the house from the broomsticks to the pet hamster. However, with Hogwarts graduation came potential aurors. There were often many of them. It was a popular career choice. Unfortunately, since there were so many young Witches and Wizards that picked the choice, that, also, by extension meant that the Ministry could occasionally be very, very picky about which ones they even considered for the job. Because of that, he knew there had to be some potential in the kid that he was supposed to meet that evening.
He hadn't volunteered to meet Airous. In fact, he still couldn't quite remember how the topic had come up. He knew that many aurors were assigned to training rookies. Some saw it as a form of punishment, others saw it as a blessing as it often meant they could take on minimal tasks for several weeks until the new guy got the hang of things. Since Jacoby actually liked and enjoyed being in the line of danger (as stupid as his wife deemed him to be for it), he saw it as the former. Nevertheless, he found himself waiting for the trainee as his co-workers left and the next shift of them came in.
He leaned against his desk, unlit cigarette hanging between his lips. He would not light it inside. He knew better. He was still getting the stink eye from the Wizard that caught him smoking inside two weeks back and threatened to lodge a complaint if he ever did it again. Since then, he hadn't lit a single one while in the Department. "Airous," he muttered to himself, "Why do you want this job?" He sighed as he pulled his wand from his pocket and twisted it around and around in his hand. "Then again, why does anyone?"
OOC: Hope it works. Don't know why I made him work overtime for it, lol Just seemed convenient. *shrug* I suppose they won't be usually, though. Just this once. ^^

Airous was quit nervous about today. He didn't want to mess everything up. He needed to be perfect at his job but not because it would make the minstery look good. He had to be perfect to make sure he got the job to feed his family. Airous honestly hadn't known what he wanted to be when he had left Hogwarts. Not a damn clue. The only reason he was even able to land the training session without a interview was because his wife's adopted mother was the head of the magical law enforcement and head auror.
Airous knocked one the door of Jacoby's office and then slowly opened it. He went up to the man, hand out to shake his. "I'm Airous. I believe your training me today?" he asked with a small smile to hide how nervous he was. After all this wasn't just another auror. This man knew Jon. And Airous was sure Jonathan would have said something about who Airous was....hopefully.

Jacoby was sure that the name of the Auror in training sounded familiar. He had heard Jonathan mention him in passing a few times. He was, also, certain that he'd heard Jonathan express concern about Airous many years prior. Airous had probably only been eleven or twelve back then. His vague recollections of Jonathan mentioning the other weren't enough for him to judge his character before meeting him, however. Not that Jacoby would have either way. Personal life was life, and work was work.
He heard the knock at his door and at the sound pulled the unlit cigarette from his lips. Without giving it much thought, he tucked it behind his ear and looked toward the door, "Come in," he said. As soon as Airous stepped in the office, Jacoby's eyes were on him. Evaluating him as though he was trying to figure out whether he was a fit for the job. Jacoby accepted his handshake, "Jacoby Michaels," he replied, "It would seem that I will be training you," he added. He studied Airous again as he dropped his hand, wondering if the other was nervous. He certainly had been his first day on the job, and it hadn't helped that the auror training him hadn't been the friendliest of Wizards.
He continued to speak, not quite sure where to begin though supposing that he would figure it out as he went. After all, this was his first time training another auror. "I assume you know that the job won't be easy," he said, "and don't expect the action to start right away," he continued, "It could be days or even weeks before we're sent out," Of course he didn't know that they would, in fact, be sent out that night.

Airous smiled at Jacoby. His stomach was filled with nerves and excitement. "I'm really excited for this." He said receding to the auror training. Airous wondered if Hecate had mentioned to Jacoby that he was her god son and that he had married her adopted daughter. Airous honestly didn't want any special treatment. Nor did he want to be known as Hecate's god son until he established a few months of work.
"I am aware of what the job has in store. After all, aurors are like the police of the wizarding world. We have to enforce laws or everyone could run around playing with hocus pocous." He said joking of course. "So when you aren't sent out what are we suppose to do?" He asked wanting to jump right into anything the minstrey had to offer.

Jacoby awkwardly returned the smile. That was what people did when others smiled, wasn't it? As usual, the smile on his face didn't last long before his expression returned to what it had been previously. He knew he'd find out in due time whether he would like working with Airous or not. Maybe Airous would be one of the better Aurors he'd work with. Such things weren't predictable. They definitely weren't predictable just from looking at a person. Or even from speaking with them. Something Jacoby had learned years ago. "I'm glad that you are," he replied, "Just don't get too excited," he added. The way he spoke, it was hard to tell whether he was joking or not.
He allowed a brief smirk to spread his lips at the reference to Muggle police. It was a comparison Jonathan had used once. And he supposed that it was true. To some degree or another. "Exactly," he replied, "And in some ways, it can be more dangerous than the Muggle world. I suppose it depends on how you look at it," he said with a shrug. The joke went over his head. Which was, actually, quite normal for Jacoby. "Sometimes, there's desk work," he said, gesturing to his desk, "Generally, whatever you're told to do. For you, there will be hands on training, too. The head will often make sure you have something to do," he said, just a bit dryly.
OOC: Whenever you're ready for them to get the "call" (lol quotations used since it won't be a literal call), just lemme know. I figure the sooner the better. As rping office work seems boring. xD

Airous watched Jacoby smile back then unsmile. He wondered if the other was more nervous then himself. Airous hadn't recognized who Jacoby was though he was sure someone had mentioned a auror named Jacoby before. He couldn't put his finger on it. He nodded. "Of course not. The more exagger the more likely to make mistakes. I won't have my excitement cloud over my judgements"
Airous frowned slightly when Jacoby hasn't caught the joke. It made him nervous slightly. He nodded as Jacoby talked. "Guess that means you shouldn't have much busy work to do either." He said with a slight smirk "what are the most kind of calls you get?" He asked wondering if they would get a murder or a drunk for his first arrest.
(( go for it ^.^ ))

"Good," Jacoby said, pleased by the other's answer. "I'm glad that you understand that," he added. And he genuinely was. Because people who didn't weren't that pleasant to train. They were the type to screw up within the first hour on the job, the kind that made Jacoby want to stab himself in the eye with his wand. He caught Airous' frown, and looked at him in confusion. "Pretty much," he replied nonchalantly, eyes still on the younger as he spoke.
His next question was a common one. One that was often asked by new Auror's their first day on the job. He'd heard it so much that as Airous spoke it, he couldn't help chuckling to himself. "Typically, idiots doing idiotic things. Drunk Wizards who have used magic and caused a problem in London. Young Wizards who have used magic outside of Hogwarts. Potions going boom," he said, using his hands to indicate such an explosion, "We have to step in, bring them in, and wipe the memories of any Muggle who had been in the proximity. With the world as it is right now, worse calls are more frequent but," he continued honestly, "You'll still see more drunks than dark witches." As if right on cue, at that moment Airous got his first job and Jacoby, his first job alongside Airous. Sheldon explained the situation. A drunk Wizard, who had decided it would be a good idea to drive. As soon as the other Auror walked away, Jacoby turned to smirk at Airous, "See, what I tell ya?" he said, "You ready to go?" he asked, prepared to apparate already.
OOC: lol Used Sheldon so I wouldn't godmode any of the other Aurors. Sure is convenient having two. xD

Airous was very curious about Jacoby. "Since we're going to be spending so much time together, can I ask a few questions?" He asked being polite and letting Jacoby decide if he wanted to answer any questions. Airous didn't have many, only a few that might help he know his partner for the next weeks that he was suppose to train.
Airous nodded as he listened to Jacoby. He should have expected the answer. He was sure even the muggle police had their run ins with more dunks than murders. Airous watched a new auror appear and explain what their task was. Airous couldn't help but let slip out "hope it's not Jonathan Doom." before he even realized he spoke. He nodded to Jacoby once more "after you captain." He said with a small smirk

Jacoby narrowed his eyes at Airous in curiosity, wondering what it was that he wanted to ask. Clueless as he was, he figured they'd all be about the job. Wasn't that what was most important to Aurors? Well, it was to Jacoby, anyway. Anyway, he supposed that he and Airous would be spending a lot of time around one another. He'd be seeing Airous on a near daily basis now. He didn't see why answering questions would hurt. "Of course," he replied, "Ask any questions you have."
Jacoby looked at Airous strangely when he said that he hoped it wasn't Jonathan. The look of recognition was on his face instantly. Well, it would be awkward if it was Jonathan. Though, Jacoby would just let him go. Apparate him home. Like he had done the last... hundred times he'd been sent out because of Jonathan. "I thought your name was familiar," he said idly, "How do you know Jon?" He smirked at Airous' words, grabbing his arm as he apparated. They arrived instantly. Jacoby's eyes scanned the road before them, looking for signs of... well, a drunken Wizard driving.
OOC: lol Don't know where to go from here. Didn't want to god mode.

Peter had found keys to a muggle car once more. He was beyond dunk as he stumbled down the road, clicking the panic button on the car keys. Peter didn't expect to find a car. After all he had no clue how to drive one. The moment the car alarm went off he jumped, fumbling with the keys as he clicked buttons until the alarm stopped. He sipped from a dark bottle as he slipped into the car.
Peter didn't know the first thing about cars. He stared at the keys in his hands and looked around the inside of the drivers side, door still wide open. He started to press things, anything he could get his hands on, the horn, the radio. Nothing happened since the car wasn't turned on other then the horn going off a few times. Peter cursed under his breath, taking another long sip from the bottle. He had seen plenty of muggles do this. Why was it so difficult for him?

"What made you want to be a auror?" He asked softly. Airous himself didn't know if this was what he truly wanted. If things hasn't gone the way they did, him having a child and marrying young, he most likely wouldn't be there in front of Jacoby. He always saw himself on a stage somewhere doing something artistry. But he didn't have much of a choice. Hecate and Selene had pushed him into this. They did need the pay check and it wasn't the worst job one could have. He should be thankful he was able to even be considered for the job.
Airous smiled lightly at Jacobys question. "He was my head of house. He also saved me a few times from my abusive father." He said. If it hasn't been for Jon, Airous wouldn't have been so open about his past as he was today. "He really is something else. Super hero to the badgers during the day, drunk by night." He said with a small chuckle. When they arrived at the scene he scanned the area looking for any signs of a wizard trying to drive. To anyone Peter might have looked like a regular muggle. Airous tried not to wince but couldn't help the gasp that escaped him when he spotted his father. "There." He said pointing at the direction of his father.

Jacoby thought about the question, eyes wandering away from Airous. He couldn't remember exactly why he'd decided to be an Auror. He had for a while. He and Jonathan had spoken about it in school. "It was a calling, I guess," he finally replied, "I've wanted to be an Auror as long as I can remember. Never wanted to do anything else," he added as a bit of an afterthought. He was thankful that he made it that far. Grateful that he hadn't been booted yet, despite occasionally being abrasive while on the job.
Jacoby caught the smile and stared in curiosity, wondering even more about how they knew one another. Airous explained. It made sense. Jonathan had been a professor well... pretty much since he left school himself. "Sounds like Jon," he said with a smile of his own, "Always saving everyone, never himself," the words slipped out thoughtlessly. Typical for the man. Jacoby himself chuckled at Airous' words. They were the truth. They were impossible to argue with. He, too, scanned the area. It was Airous that spotted him first. He caught the gasp, mumbling a single swear as his eyes moved in the direction. He managed to mumble a "Good job," to Airous, too, before he started for the car, checking to make sure Airous was following.
(ooc; eep, not sure if this is good to work with. Lemme know if you want me to change it. xD )

Peter continue to play with the things inside the car. He threw a coat out of the car and into the street in search of a on button. Then he had a idea. Why make keys for a car if you can't use them. Searching around the steering wheel and found the whole for the keys. He placed a key in it but it didn't fit. He grumbled taking a long sip from the bottle.
He fit the next key into the hole and it did fit but no sound came from the car. He tried to push the gas but nothing happened. Blinking, Peter turned the key. The roar of the engine buzzed threw his ears. But before he could do anything, to figures distracted him. One was Jacoby and the other his son. He wondered what they where doing here. His mouth gapped open and watched at they approached him.

Airous nodded slowly at him. He was lucky since he knew what he wanted to be. Airous knew he would be a good auror. There was no doubt about that. He just didn't know if this was really what he wanted. He sighed lightly. He couldn't be thinking like this. He had a family to tend to. He needed to make a good pay check to raise his daughter. Airous needed to make sure he could get this job, no matter if he hated it or not.
"That's so true. I wish there was some way to help him." He said gently unsure on how Jacoby might take that. He heard the good job mumbled from Jacoby but he wasn't sure how well of a good job it was since the man in the car was his father. He followed Jacoby but once the car started, he started in a sprint. If his father tried to drive it could be the end of him and anyone else near.

He caught Airous' nod and stared at him for a moment longer, curious about why he wanted to know. He had always assumed that most people followed their calling. Always figured it would be impossible not to. If you wanted something badly enough, you'd do it, wouldn't you? He wasn't the type of person to consider the fact that that simply wasn't the case for some people. "What about you?" he asked when Airous didn't give the answer himself. Curiosity killed the cat and all that.
Jacoby frowned at Airous' words. He, too, often wished that there was. But if there was, after more than a decade, Jacoby still hadn't found it. "Me, too," he said a tad bitterly. When the car started, Airous wasn't the only one to break into a sprint. Jacoby himself did, trailing right behind the other. He found himself speaking the words that were on his mind loudly, without giving them any thought at all, "Get out of the car," This was just great. First day training Airous, and Peter was the one they were dealing with.
OOC: Airous can get there first if you want lol He is younger, so *shrug* xD
